Patriarchal Blessings

Every worthy member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is eligible to receive a Patriarchal Blessing. Having copies of the patriarchal blessing given to ourselves, spouses, direct line descendants and deceased direct line ancestors are a wonderful addition to our Book of Remembrances. I have been planning on getting a copy of my deceased mother's blessing for some time now. I just kept forgetting when I was in Salt Lake to stop by the Family and Church History Department and order it.

I was very pleased to see the following announcement posted on FHCNET today:

Announcement from the Family and Church History Department about Patriarchal Blessings: Effective March 1, 2007, we will no longer charge a fee for copies of patriarchal blessings. This applies to both individual and ancestral blessings. In order for our staff to efficiently process requests in a timely manner, it will be necessary to limit requests to four (4) blessings per requester until our digitizing project is complete.

As many of you are aware, we are currently in the process of digitizing our collection of 3.5 million patriarchal blessings. Once this project is completed in 2008, it will be much easier for members around the world to receive copies of blessings.

For more information about how to request patriarchal blessings, please visit the Church History Web site at:

Renee's Note: I'm not sure how many of you noticed but there is no charge for receiving these copies. It used to cost $3.00. AND I'm really pleased to see that these blessings are also being digitized and will be on line in a year. That is just major coolness.

Since I had all the information to send away for my mom's patriarchal blessing I just sent a letter ordering it. I am just so excited to get that taken care of. One more thing checked off my to-do-list. YIPPEE!!

See ya tomorrow, for tomorrow is always another genealogy day!
