I was very excited to see the following indexing project announced from the New England Historic Genealogical Society or NEHGS.
Volunteers Needed for Indexing Project
NEHGS and FamilySearchIndexing.com are joining forces to index the 1855 and 1865 Boston Censuses using the internet-based indexing capability developed by FamilySearchIndexing.com. When indexing of these censuses is complete, both www.FamilySearch.org and www.NewEnglandAncestors.org will offer the ability to search and view this census data.
NEHGS members and supporters may join the effort by emailing a request for a login and password to indexing@nehgs.org.
Before signing-up, prospective volunteers need to have PC or Mac and high-speed (e.g., broadband or DSL) internet connection to download the indexing software and access the indexing materials. Volunteers should also complete the indexing tutorial offered in the indexing “Help” section at FamilySearchIndexing.com, to make sure they understand the process. The process is intended to be as intuitive as possible, but basic computer skills are necessary, and some experience with using spreadsheets is helpful.
---------------
When I went to the FamilySearch Indexing site I was pleased to see that they have a list of not only current projects but also projects coming in the future. Stop by and have a look around. Sure are exciting things to come. Now only if they would do the New York State Censuses for me!
See ya tomorrow for tomorrow is always another genealogy day!
