This article is in response to a comment left on my blog by Janell. It was in reference to my article "I Wonder Who Will Invent This?". Janell told me about a new Google Group that has been created in the last couple of weeks. They are discussing the future of genealogy software. The name of the Google Group is "BeyondGen". The guy who was working on Beyond started it when he decided he didn't have enough time to create the program anymore, but still wanted to talk about the logic behind writing genealogy software. There's quite a bit of techno-speak, but the discussions about theory are going to be interesting.

Well, I joined this group and let me say it has been very interesting. If you want to keep your finger on the heart beat of the future of genealogy software, i.e. GEDCOM formats, then this is the place to be. There is a lot of techno-speak and receiving these emails in digest mode can be very difficult to follow. I would suggest that you receive their emails separately each day so you can understand each concept and its thread. There is once again discussion on a new GEDCOM format, or NOT. Lets hope that many hands and brains can get to together and figure out the solution at last. Sure hope all the genealogy software developers get involved. It sure has been a pleasure to read the discussions on BeyondGen, it's a keeper. Hope to see you there.

See ya tomorrow, for tomorrow is always another genealogy day!
