Christmas has come early for me. I just got my computer back with it's new upgrades. The system is running a lot faster now. Christmas presents are all wrapped and placed under the tree. Hopefully I can get on with more important things - like GENEALOGY!!!

I had a second cousin contact me about my Harris side of the family. Since my cousin mentioned he went to school with my brother Jim; I had to contact Jim and see how we were related. (I didn't have this cousin in my database; anyways it's a good excuse to call your brother long distance.) I got to talking with my brother about our different talents and interests. My brother just can't tolerate doing genealogy but he loves to write.

I mentioned my passion for doing genealogy and how addicting it is. I compared my fix for doing genealogy like a gambler needing to pull the slot machine handle and waiting for the results. Every time I enter a name into a database I can imagine waiting for the slot machine windows to stop spinning. Will my name come up? Will I find my answer? No Results! I quickly enter another name or change the search query and hit enter - waiting again for the results and the game continues on and on and on. (I wonder if anyone else feels like this?)

I told my brother it's a good thing I'm not a gambler for I know I would be addicted. (See doing genealogy is saving me money after all! :-) My brother told me of a quote by Brigham Young that mentions people doing genealogy with a perfect mania. Well I had to find that quote. And here it is to share.

Journal of Discourses, vol. 15 pg. 138
Remarks by President Brigham Young
Delivered at Farmington, Saturday Afternoon, August 24, 1872

"We are now baptizing for the dead, and we are sealing for the dead, and if we had a temple prepared we should be giving endowments for the dead—for our fathers, mothers, grandfathers, grandmothers, uncles, aunts, relatives, friends and old associates, the history of whom we are now getting from our friends in the East. The Lord is stirring up the hearts of many there, and there is a perfect mania with some to trace their genealogies and to get up printed records of their ancestors. They do not know what they are doing it for, but the Lord is prompting them; and it will continue and run on from father to father, father to father, until they get the genealogy of their forefathers as far as they possibly can."

Well now that's it's ok to be insane with a perfect mania while doing genealogy; I guess I will see you tomorrow - for tomorrow is always another genealogy day!
